MOHAMED A. ISMAIL He
is currently the Managing Partner of the firm. He holds an LL.B (Hons) from the University
of East Africa (1969). He was the first graduate from the University of East Africa to
establish a private practice office in Tanzania. Apart from his private practice he has
been a part-time Law Reform Commissioner since 1983 to-date, as the presidential
appointment kept on being renewed since then. He worked as a State Attorney at Attorney
General's Chambers (1969-73). He also served as Chairman of Tanzania Legal Corporation
(1993-96), and as a Director, Air Tanzania Corporation (National Airline - 1993-99), and
as President of the Tanganyika Law Society (the National Bar Association of Tanzania -
1996-98) and President, Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam. In the year 2000, he was appointed a
member of the LART Loans Recovery Tribunal. In a professional career that spans more than
three decades, Mr. Ismail has appeared many times in the High Court and Court of Appeal of
Tanzania on various cases. He also appeared in the Appeals Chamber of International
Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (first Counsel from East Africa to do so). He is a member of
the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London. He is also a member of the Tanganyika Law
Society, the East Africa Law Society as well as the International Bar Association. His
areas of practice include Corporate, Commercial, Real Estate, Intellectual Property,
Shipping and Maritime, Aviation Laws, Mining and Litigation.
