THOMAS B. MIHAYO He
is currently the President of the Tanganyika Law Society, the National Bar Association of
Tanzania Mainland. He holds an LL.B (Hons) from the University of Dar es Salaam (1972).
After graduating he worked with the Judiciary as a Resident Magistrate up to 1982 when he
was appointed to the post of District Registrar of the High Court of Tanzania, before
being appointed as a full Registrar of the High Court of Tanzania in 1984 the post he held
until 1990. From 1991 to 1994 he worked as the Principal Corporation Counsel with the
Tanzania Legal Corporation. In April, 1994 he was appointed to the post of the Registrar
of LART Loans Recovery Tribunal the post he is holding todate. His practical experience
gained from working as a Magistrate (at the Bench) and as a Legal Counsel with the
Tanzania Legal Corporation (on the Bar side) adds a great value to our firm, in particular
to the litigation department. Mr. Mihayo also has a very wide international exposure as he
was twice elected to the Council of the Commonwealth Magistrates Association (1984-85)
before being elected as the Regional Vice President of the Commonwealth Magistrates and
Judges Association for East and Central African Region in 1988. Mr. Mihayo also attended
various special courses offered by reputable international institutions (eg; the
International Law Institute, Washington D.C.), on areas relating to Negotiating
International Joint Ventures, International Arbitration and Development and Regulation of
Capital Markets, to mention but a few. His areas of specialty include litigation,
corporate finance, Negotiating Joint Ventures, Taxation, Securities Laws and Arbitration.
He is a member of the Tanganyika Law Society, East Africa Law Society (where he serves as
its Secretary General) as well as International Bar Association.
